In addition, City Republicans elected local party officers in February, and will participate in the 8th District and State Republican Conventions in May. For President of the U.S.The Virginia Presidential primary was on February 12. John McCain won the Republican primary contest with just over half of the vote statewide, and more than 2/3 of GOP primary votes in Falls Church. He will receive all of Virginia's 63 delegate votes at the Republican National Convention.

For U.S. SenateVirginia will elect a new U.S. Senator in 2008, to succeed the retiring John Warner. Former Gov. Jim Gilmore and Del. Bob Marshall have announced for the Republican nomination; ex-Gov. Mark Warner is the likely Democrat nominee. See more on the GOP candidates for Senate. The GOP nominee will be selected at the Republican State Convention on Sat., May 31. Those wishing to attend that convention must sign up through the City Committee. See more on reorganization and conventions. For U.S. CongressVoters in the 8th District will have another opportunity to elect a new member of Cognress to replace discredited incumbent Democrat Jim Moran. Republicans Mark Ellmore and Amit Singh have announced for the seat. If the Republican nomination is contesed, the nominee will be selected at a GOP Congressional primary on Tue., June 10. See more on the GOP candidates for Congress. For City Council and School BoardCity voters will elect three members of City Council and three members of the School Board in 2008. Those offices are non-partisan, so the FCCRC is not involved in nominating or endorsing candidates. We encourage Falls Church voters to learn about the candidates and to participate in local elections, which will help shape the City's future. The City election will be Tue., May 6. Voting will be at all regular polling places, from 6 am to 7 pm. Absentee voting is also available. See more on voting in Falls Church. For Republican Party officesFalls Church Republicans elected party officers at a City Republican meeting on Sat., Feb. 9. Those include members of the City Committee, a new City GOP Chairman, and delegates to the District and State GOP Conventions in May. (For more on the February meeting, see our reorganization page.) The 8th District Convention on Sat., May 17, will elect district party offices and delegates to the Republican National Convention. The Virginia State Convention on Sat., May 31, will elect state party offices, delegates to the National Convention, and select our nominee for U.S. Senate. There are many opportunities to participate with the Falls Church GOP, including open positions on the City Committee and campaign volunteers. FCCRC invites local Republicans to get involved.
